Charles Currie Patton (Currie) only spent one year at Bogie since he graduated with the first class in 1954. However, it was the most active year of his high school experience. He attended Disston Junior High(Grade 9), St Petersburg High School(Grade 10), Columbia Military Academy (Tennessee: Grade 11)then came home to a brand new high school.
It turned out to be one of the most noteworthy experiences to his life. Having already been a member of the Pasadena Community Church Choir, he signed up for Christine Baker's music program. His high school experiences include, president and student director of the first choir (We started out in Room C-11 since the choir room in the gym wasn't finished until second semester), He was in a quartet that sang the first three unsuccessful attempts at an alma mater (which wasn't adopted until the second year), he wanted to play football, but the first year there was no varsity team. He then joined the swimming team under Jerry Reulf (which was the only winning team in any sport in the first year. He was a navigator, and was selected as the best dancer in the senior class (thanks to Arlene Salzman, where ever you are. Arlene could make anyone look good when she danced with them).
Upon graduation, he attended St Petersburg Junior College and the University of Tampa, but joined the Army in 1958 and attained his Bachelors Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1961. After retirement from the Army in 1978, he completed his Masters Degree in Administration & Supervision at the University of South Florida in 1985. He ran, unsuccessfully, for the Pinellas County School Board in 1998.
In 1960 Currie married Claudia Queen BCHS '58 and they have four children, Brian, Jeff. Michele and Kevin. They have 8 grandchildren. Their oldest grandchild, Melissa graduated from Bogie in the class of 2001.
His military service included 6 years enlisted service in the infantry and completing the Field Artillery Officer Candidate School in 1960 at Ft Sill Oklahoma and then had 19 more years active duty with service in Europe, Korea, Vietnam, and a variety of assignments in the States. After 25 years of military service (4 yrs Florida National Guard and 21 year regular US Army) he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978 and began teaching Army Junior ROTC at Plant City High School (1978-80), moved back to St Pete in 1980 & worked for two years at Noyes Moran, Inc. (National Financial Marketing Firm), then taught at Dixie Hollins High School from 1982-1999 when he retired. He was involved in the process of getting an Army Junior ROTC unit at Boca Ciega and Gibbs High schools. He taught at BCHS a few times while the unit was in its developmental stages (in the old choir room in the gym).
Currie was involved in the process of lobbying and appearing in front of the School Board to get the new music building named after Christine Baker.
Currently Currie is retired, but does some substitute teaching and working with Blackledge Painting (owned by his daughter Michele and her husband Bobby). Most of his time is spent on the old homestead (he bought the home he grew up in which is an 86 year old frame home) and is doing perpetual repairs. In addition, he is the Commander of the St Petersburg Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars and the Commander of the JF Kennedy Chapter 1963 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He is a Trustee with the Youth Leadership Foundation, Inc. and teaches at their annual Youth Leadership Conference in Tallahassee. Additionally, He is a member of The Retired Officers Association and is the associate Director and President of the Pasadena United Methodist Church Choir, and has a small engraving business which keeps him busy and out of trouble.

I met (in 2005) and married (in 2006) my soul mate and now live in Bradenton, FL. My husband, John, was born in Aruba where his father worked for the Esso Refinery. We both love anything to do with water and he works doing Technical Sales with Marine Industry products and (mostly) boat builders.
We both travel for work and one (or both) of us has traveled to Bahrain, Norway, England, Italy, Amsterdam, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Great Exuma (Bahamas), Barbados, Hawaii, and almost every other state in the US.
I am a Senior Project Manager for a software company in Austin, Texas. I travel to the customer's site (a different city every week) and assess their needs, install software, do data conversions from one program to another (if needed), and train the customer on how to use our products.
John and I enjoy our weekends at home together and with friends.
I have two boys. The oldest has twins, a boy and a girl, and another boy. My youngest has two Dobermans, one black and one white. They all live in St. Pete. John has three children and several grandchildren that all live up north.
Life is great and I hope everyone that reads this is doing well.
Cheers!
